Spiral Climbing Rope Rug

To finish the rug use your fabric strip to wrap your end of the rope similar to how you wrapped the rope at the beginning of the rug just make sure the end of the rope is covered and sew down the middle to secure.
Spiral climbing rope rug. Oval or round shaped rug you need very long continuous braids to create these shapes because you have to coil them to get an oval or circle. Rugs can also be sewn the resulting rugs are larger a circle has roughly a 35 diameter for a 60m rope and flat. Good instructions but to add to the longevity of your rug dont just stitch the beginning and the ends. Using the zigzag stitch tuck the end of the rope under your rug so it disappears from sight and sew over it to secure.
The longer the loop the more oblong the rug. By hand expect to spend several days at 2 3hr per day. Half of the rope is solid green and half is a patterned green. Coil the braid into a spiral shape pin it together then sew to keep it all in place.
Before you add the glue caulk silicone get a big diametre strong darning needle and fishing line from the centre work through the sheath of each rope and stitch each strand together out and back repeat until you have sewn all around the rug. You can make the rug oval shaped by beginning with a flat bight of rope. You can make a bigger and multi colored rug by adding a second and third rope to the spiral by simply butting the ends and maybe adding a stitch or two at the joint. Keep coiling and pinning and sew all the coils together.
In this tutorial we used a two tone climbing rope. Climbing rope rugs are popular pieces of decor for climbers and non climbers alike. Sewn rugs are much more durable than the tape and glue variety.
